Ángel Majuan García, a specialist from the APROCASSI agricultural coffee cooperative (Cajamarca region), has been undertaking a technical exchange in the city of Brescia (Italy), strengthening his skills in various innovations within the modern beekeeping sector, which he is developing alongside expert Italian beekeepers. On his return to Peru, he will apply what he has learnt through applied research to train producers in good beekeeping practices at the pilot centre set up at the Aprocassi cooperative and at Prosperidad Chirinos.
This trip was made possible thanks to the strategic partnership between the Aprocassi cooperative and Terra Nuova, within the framework of two projects: firstly, the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF Amazonian Andes Landscape), funded by UK International Development; and secondly, “Biodiversity, innovation and sustainability in the honey supply chain: the challenge for Amazonian cooperatives in northern Peru”, funded by Tavola Valdese.
The main purpose of the trip is to improve and strengthen the biodiversity supply chain through agroecological approaches, ecosystem services and food safety to achieve competitiveness and sustainable production.
It is important to acknowledge the support of Italian beekeepers Riccardo Sudati and Francesco Rottoli in promoting these technical exchanges, which will contribute to science and research and prepare us for the honey tasting workshops and the 3rd North-Eastern Congress of Apiculture and Meliponiculture, to be held in Cajamarca.
